Betta Campsite
Traveling to Betta Campsite
This campsite is located at a comically aggressive bend in the road on the way to Sossusvlei Dunes. On the solitary road, C27, it is impossible to miss this gem. Please see the screenshot below. It is about a 45 minute drive north to the Namib Rand Nature Reserve, which is one of the most coveted areas in all of Namibia. Though 45 minutes seems a distance, the sprawling desert landscape and true start of wildlife makes this a worthwhile and necessary drive.
The week before we arrived, there was a terrible deluge. These roads get wiped out massive amounts of rain and due to the ground not being able to absorb the moisture, it can be a lot of damage. We would not have made it through the mud on the roads the week prior!

Camping, Accommodation, and Activities at Betta Campsite
There several chalets, a few hookups for RVs at this site, but for the most part it is a basic campsite. There are stands to put your tents underneath to block from the intense sun. At each campsite, there is a small kitchen area and a picnic table. There is electricity running to the kitchen area, which made making coffee much easier! Of course there is also a braai so grab some Namibian hardwood!
There is a camp store with everything you need! Some of the basic necessities like water, firewood, petrol/diesel, and frozen meats for braaiing are all there as well as beer, liquor, and ice cream. When in 40C/100+F degrees, those also become necessary items. The ablutions were clean and pleasant too! One more added bonus were several dogs belonging to the owners of the campsite running around. They were too sweet and definitely kept us safe!
While we were there, there was a massive dust storm that rolled in. This limited many activities, but as seen from the photos on this post, it created a beautiful hushed sunset for photos with friends.
Side-note: We used the Tracks 4 Africa self driving book to guide our journey. In the book, it stated that there was a swimming pool. There is no swimming pool. Do not be disappointed like us.
Namibian Roadtrip
This particular trip to Namibia was completed with our two friends, Courtney and Tyler. It was both of their first times in South Africa/Namibia so it was an obvious choice to do our 10 day trip with both of them!
This was night 2 of 9 nights on the itinerary. This day was Fish River Canyon while on the way to the Sossusvlei Dunes.
Courtney is a blogger as well- check her website out: https://awanderingbroadabroad.wordpress.com/

Enjoying a Castle Lite with a view.

Enjoying the sunset despite the impending dust storm.

All smiles in the Namibian desert.

Even the best equipment cannot capture the natural beauty.

There is life and greenery even in the most desolate of places.

Having fun in the sun…set.

Quiet as the storm settles in.
