Riad La Tangerina in Tangier, Morocco
Our trip to Morocco was mostly unplanned by us and planned by Christian. The hostel/Riad that he chose is one that his family has always stayed at when visiting Morocco, La Tangerina. Because of our experiences at different hostels/camp sites in Southern Africa, we had no idea what to expect from one in Morocco.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was less…rustic that we originally had thought.
It was a small place on the top of the city. No, seriously, the TOP of the city. When we walked there from the ferry, we were surprised at the amount of hills (mountains) we had to climb to get to our residence. We passed markets and local eateries along the way and the hills just kept coming. This would be my only complaint of the place. BUT the view that La Tangerina offers from the roof is all worth it.
The main area is open. As you can see from pictures, the center is completely open and lets in light from the roof. There is only 10 rooms in the whole place, so everyone can see every room door from the balconies.

Inside La Tangerina, there was an open centre that allowed you to look straight up!
They served us breakfast in the morning consisting of eggs and more bread than you can imagine. It came with fresh jams from fruit that had obviously just been purchased from the market that morning.
{Please excuse our sleepy faces}

Excuse the sleepy faces

The jams were amazing!
As mentioned above. THE VIEW!

The rooms also come with a great view.

Great view from the rooms
Mint tea and pastries were served in the afternoon on the roof. It was a fantastic addition to the charm of La Tangerina.

Mint tea and pastries were delicious!

Looking out at Tangier, Morocco
Overall, I would 100% stay at La Tangerina again. The only thing I would look out for is the price of beer. Because the common areas were so cozy, it was easy for us to spend a lot of time there. This meant beverages; the boys put away a lot of beers and our tab was more than we thought. The service was great and my Hammam was done right there in the building. It was a comfortable space that made our stay in Tangier even better.
